LSG Unveils New Red-Blue Jersey for IPL 2026 Season
Lucknow Super Giants has introduced a distinctive red and blue striped jersey for the upcoming Indian Premier League season, marking a significant departure from their traditional blue-centric design. The franchise's rebrand reflects Uttar Pradesh's cultural heritage through bold new imagery.
Heritage-Inspired Design Changes
The RPSG Group-owned franchise has implemented comprehensive changes to their visual identity ahead of IPL 2026. The team's new emblem features the Garuda, Crown, and Elephant, representing courage, pride, and strength while honoring Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh's deep-rooted traditions.
LSG has replaced their previous winged cricket bat logo with this culturally significant emblem, moving away from tri-color elements to embrace a design that better reflects regional heritage. The franchise made its IPL debut in 2022 and achieved consecutive playoff appearances in 2022 and 2023.
Official Statement on New Identity
Shashwat Goenka, LSG owner, emphasized the emotional significance of the rebrand. "The fans have remained at the heart of LSG's four-year journey, shaping a deep emotional connection with the team and its identity. This new jersey translates that connection into something lived and worn," he stated.
The owner explained the color symbolism: "Red reflects the intensity that defines how we compete, blue acknowledges where the journey began, and gold expresses belief in what lies ahead. In motion, it becomes an expression of identity, carrying culture, purpose, and competitive intent into every game."
Fan Reception and Comparisons
The jersey's unveiling has generated considerable discussion among cricket enthusiasts. Many observers have drawn comparisons to prominent football kits, particularly FC Barcelona's iconic red and blue stripes. The bold design has divided opinion, with some appreciating the vibrant aesthetic while others question its departure from traditional cricket jersey styling.
Social media commentary has been mixed, with supporters noting similarities to various football clubs including AC Milan and Crystal Palace. Some fans have praised the modern approach, while traditionalists have expressed concern about the flashy design.
Team Performance Context
The rebrand comes as LSG seeks to improve upon their disappointing 2025 campaign. Under captain Rishabh Pant, the team finished seventh in the league stage with six wins and eight losses, accumulating 12 points and failing to qualify for the playoffs.
The franchise aims to combine their new visual identity with improved on-field performance for IPL 2026, which begins in March. The team's previous jersey designs included light blue with orange and green accents in 2022, followed by darker blue variations with orange and red elements in subsequent seasons.
LSG occasionally wore special maroon and green kits inspired by Mohun Bagan, another RPSG Group property, for select matches in previous seasons.
