In a significant move to preserve traditional agricultural practices and boost rural prosperity, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has allocated Rs 7 billion for the construction of 400 dams in the Pothwaar region, demonstrating the government's commitment to upholding cultural heritage through agricultural development.

Strategic Agricultural Development Plan

Member Provincial Assembly Nawabzada Chaudhry Sher Ali Khan announced the three-year transformation initiative during a ceremony in Attock. The comprehensive plan, which mirrors the success of traditional preservation efforts seen in other regions, includes:

  • Construction of 100 dams in the first year
  • 150 dams in the second year
  • 150 additional dams in the third year
  • 70% subsidy support for farmers

Preserving Agricultural Heritage

The initiative reflects a deep understanding of preserving traditional values while embracing agricultural advancement. Key support measures include:

  • Interest-free loans through Kisan Card
  • Subsidized green tractors
  • Transformation of barren lands into fertile grounds

Local Implementation and Impact

The program's initial phase has already seen success, with 35 farmers selected through a transparent lucky draw system across multiple tehsils: 8 from Attock, 9 from Fatehjang, 9 from Pindigheb, and 10 from Jand, from a total of 168 applications.
