Canada Names 32-Man Roster for World Junior Summer Showcase
Hockey Canada has announced a 32-player roster for the World Junior Summer Showcase, set to take place in Windsor, Ontario, from July 27 to August 1. The camp serves as preparation for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship in December.
The roster includes 10 defencemen, four goaltenders, and 18 forwards. Eight players return from the 2026 squad that earned a bronze medal: Carson Carels, Braeden Cootes, Jack Ivankovic, Caleb Desnoyers, Brady Martin, Cameron Reid, Cole Reschny, and Keaton Verhoeff.
Of the 32 players named, 31 have been developed in the Canadian Hockey League. Twelve come from the Western Hockey League, 11 from the Ontario Hockey League, and eight from the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.
Top NHL Draft Picks Lead the Way
The roster features 28 players already selected in the NHL Draft, including 13 first-round picks. Six were taken in the first round of the 2026 NHL Draft: Caleb Malhotra (third overall, Vancouver Canucks), Daxon Rudolph (fourth, Buffalo Sabres), Carson Carels (sixth, Calgary Flames), Keaton Verhoeff (ninth, San Jose Sharks), Ethan Belchetz (17th, Utah Mammoth), and Ryan Lin (21st, San Jose Sharks).
Malhotra, a forward from the Brantford Bulldogs, is the highest-drafted player on the roster. Verhoeff, a defenceman from the Victoria Royals, is among those returning for a second attempt at world junior glory.
Canada Seeks Gold After Bronze Finish
Team Canada enters the 2027 tournament looking to improve on last year's bronze medal. The nation has not won gold since the 2023 tournament, which was held on home soil in Halifax and Moncton.
“We’re excited to announce the 32 players who will attend the World Junior Summer Showcase in Windsor as we begin our preparation for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship,” said Alan Millar, general manager of Canada’s National Junior Team, in a statement.
“This is an important opportunity for our staff to evaluate a talented group of players against top international competition while continuing to build our identity as a team. We’re looking forward to seeing this group compete and bringing this showcase to Windsor in front of passionate Canadian hockey fans.”
Showcase Schedule and Opponents
The showcase will feature games against Sweden on July 29, Finland on July 30, and the United States on August 1. All games will be played in Windsor, Ontario.
