The Bradford County Sheriff's Office responded to an emergency call in the early hours of Thursday, January 29, regarding a fatal shooting at a residence in Starke. Deputies discovered Loyd Alan Kerr, 50, deceased near the front entrance of the home, while Rachael Renee Kerr, 43, was found in the yard and subsequently declared dead by emergency responders.

According to law enforcement officials, the incident unfolded before the couple's children, ages 9 and 11. Chief Deputy Brad Smith reported that following the initial violence, Loyd Kerr directed a firearm toward the children and inquired whether they wished to accompany him to heaven. The children, physically unharmed, fled to a neighboring residence following the incident. Authorities indicate that Loyd Kerr subsequently died by suicide.
